Baby Claire Calls for Help!

by Kareen King on April 23, 2010

The alarm clock for our girls this morning was the sound of a calf bellowing in the pasture just west of our house. I went out to see what the matter was. When I first spotted her, she was facing the opposite direction of all the other cows. She was looking toward my in-laws’ home. So I called my brother-in-law to report the situation from my cell phone out in the rain as the calf started moving in my direction. “That’s Baby Claire,” he announced as soon as I described her. Somehow she didn’t make it back with the rest of the cows last night to get fed. And she thought I was about to be her savior. Rest assured, my brother-in-law said he’d be on his way to feed her. After the incident, I realized how her cries for help ignited the same response in me as when Emilou used to call for help. After all, “help” deserves a response.
