Because of Them

by Kareen King on March 31, 2010

I went out soliciting funds from local businesses for our annual after-prom party this year. I’ve had a lot of fun doing this for the second year in a row, because I go after some of the more unconventional and perhaps, overlooked businesses such as second-hand shops. I’ve found that these places like to be “legitimized” by being included as having a viable product to contribute to society.

I’ve also enjoyed some of the conversations along the way. One little moment that stood out to me today came from a local hairdresser who services female octogenarians who frequent her hair salon. She says she just loves them and their stories. After all:

“Who we are is because of them,” she declared.
