I am proud to announce that my daughter Rachel won first place in the piano division of the annual state music scholarship competition sponsored by General Federation of Women’s Clubs in Kansas. After a grueling drive through an untimely winter snowstorm on the first day of spring, it was thrilling to see that all her countless hours, weeks, and months of practice paid off. She earned a $600.00 scholarship toward her college education. It was a satisfying ending to her high school piano career.
I am grateful to an organization that has chosen to create a platform to acknowledge youth who participate in the fine arts. Many of the volunteers who promote these promising youth and organize these events are senior citizens. What a wonderful contribution they make!
And, she finally got to perform her piece to an audience that included more than just a judge and her mother. The name of the piece is Toccatta by Procofiev.
