I love novelty. And that’s what one will find if they walk in the doors of The Muffin Top Cakery, a quirky little establishment featuring “custom treats created for any occasion.” It’s owned and operated by Jen Uhl, an “artist” who created it and worked extremely hard as a solopreneur to establish herself. One of the features that caught my family’s eye while the shop was under construction, was a strange looking mannequin propped in the doorway. Jen was certain it would attract customers. And indeed it has!
Yesterday, I introduced myself to Jen and discovered an immediate kindred spirit in terms of creativity and unconventionality. I told her that the atmosphere she was created was something akin to Voodoo Doughnut in Portland, OR, an unforgettable experience my family shared on a recent trip to visit our daughter.
Anyway, Jen granted me permission to take her picture along with scenes from her fun little shop. And, she donated a giant cupcake for the cause of tonight’s After Prom party for the local high school students. I’ve included a picture of it with my Emilou puppet, which Jen can’t wait to meet.
“I’ve always done good for others. Now good is coming back to me,” she declared in response to the overwhelming support from the community toward her eclectic endeavors.
