Why Health Care Professionals Need The Golden Experience

by Kareen King on September 22, 2011

I just returned from the American Health Care Association Convention held in Las Vegas where I presented a workshop entitled “Therapeutic Play for the Caregiver and Client.”

It was incredibly affirming to note that play was mentioned by Daniel Pink, the opening keynote presenter and author of “Drive,” as one of the six most important abilities that matter most in the health care industry. That along with empathy, story, meaning, symphony, and design.

His keynote, along with the Tony Hsieh’s endnote on creating a culture of happiness, further affirmed why I believe what I have to offer through The Golden Experience is important to the health care industry, particularly in long term care. According to Pink, the health-care industry is in need of a new set of abilities which include an emphasis on empathy and artistry. Furthermore, too much of what occurs during presentations at conferences and conventions is information which can easily be automated. Oftentimes conference attendees will complain they are being power-pointed to death.

According to Pink, “artists give the world something they didn’t know they were missing.” And thus, enter The Golden Experience. For event planners, gate keepers, and decision makers who are looking for a one-of-a-kind keynote, concert, or workshop to empower, enrich, and educate caregivers in what matters most, consider the following:

My presentations are memorable and experiential, thus increasing the residual impact in the workplace.
My presentations use artistic narrative to support theoretical content.
My presentations help people become “big picture” thinkers, identifying what’s needed to make things better.
My presentations include opportunities to experience empathy, empowering LTC workers in what matters most to residents and their families – care and concern of staff (2010-2011 National Survey of Customer and Employee Satisfaction in Nursing Homes – National Report).
My presentations include opportunities to experience play.
My presentations help clarify deeper purpose in LTC workers, thus increasing their level of personal happiness and job satisfaction.
