Let's Get Unreal!
Discover thrilling possibilities when relationship-centered enrichment occurs in an experience that leaves elders saying things like, “You’re a brain stretcher. You make us look outside our world,” and “This makes the week. Do we think of pains and aches? No we don’t.” In this workshop, I share field-tested tools that foster the desire older adults have to learn, play, discover, create, belong, and express themselves. Groundwork will be laid on the basics of creative improvisation and how it works with storytelling, poetry, conversation, music, and more. Participants will both learn and experience techniques, and will discover how creativity can occur any time, not just during planned activities.
My purpose is to equip caregivers and activity professionals with tools to incorporate creativity into conventional activities and activity programming.
Objectives:
- The learner will be able to identify how creative engagement group experiences meet seven fundamental human needs.
- The learner will be able to identify and execute the necessary components of a creative engagement experience.
- The learner will be able to exercise the skill of improvisation as crucial to successful creative engagement experiences.
* This workshop is available as an all-day intensive, a half-day intensive, a 1 1/2 hour workshop, or as a shadowing experience.
